NOT SO FUNNY HOME VIDEO

This is a home video that has made its way around the internet after being aired on a network video show. The dog is seen guarding his bone from his own foot, which keeps creeping up on him. In the background, the owners are laughing at the dog's odd behavior.

If the dog directed the same behavior toward the child heard laughing in the background, the average owner would not be laughing. But because the dog directs the behavior on his own foot, the owners find it funny.

Sadly, this video is far from funny. The dog was actually injuring itself to the point that medical treatment was necessary.  Fortunately, the family did get help from a behavior consultant and was able to change the dog's behavior.

If you have or know a dog who exhibits strange, obsessive and/or compulsive behaviors, the dog should be checked by a veterinarian for illness and then by a qualified behavior professional. It may look funny, but is likely a sign of a serious problem.
